Well... I think this a part everyone of us as parents struggles with every now and again . As kids grow and change we have to keep finding and introducing new ways to keep them organized and our homes feeling comfortable and beautiful for everyone to enjoy.
I don't believe we need to all have expensive things to make our homes cozy and beautiful. I believe organization and care will make any home welcoming for anyone.
Running a household, working, kids and everyday life struggles are not easy. Sometimes decor and organization are the least of worries or so we think.. We don't realize that sometimes that mess at home can cause discomfort and uneasiness, making it hard to get rid of fatigue and stress. Well there are ways to make it all better for all of us.
First thing I would suggest before coming up with a plan is to PURGE! I cannot stress this enough.
PURGE, PURGE, PURGE, there is so much stuff we hold on to that we don't use or will never ever use. Get rid of all those baby clothes, toys, books etc. We don't need to fill up our homes with stuff. All that stuff might be very helpful to someone else, so why not donate it to a local charity, or sell it and make some extra cash??
Secondly come up with a plan and incentives that will get the whole family to participate for example in our home, my daughter cleans all the bottles and cans and gets them ready to recycle. Once the bin is full we take it to the depot and the money we make is hers to spend, so it's a win win for everyone. If she doesn't do it and I end up having to do it on her behalf then the money goes to mama, hahaha. I can assure you that mistake happened once or twice and now she's on top of it.
Thirdly make sure everything has a spot and if necessary label everything and make it super easy for everyone to see. While doing some organization for some of my clients with very young kids I make sure their labels have pictures and/or stickers and words they can identify. When that's done, teach kids to clean up after themselves and put everything where it stays. Kids are really smart and get used to routines if we help them and make it fun. Invest in some good decorative storage baskets, bins and hampers, they come in various shapes, sizes, colours, designs and material to match any decor. These work so well in any room and are always a hit with all my clients.
Fourth thing, make it a habit to tidy up every night before bed time so that mornings are smooth sailing for everyone . Another example for you, in our home we load the dishwasher in the evening, then run it in the morning after we put our cereal bowls in, that way when we come back from school and work there are no dirty dishes in the sink and all we need to do is empty the dishwasher and everything is clean and ready for dinner prep.
Fifth thing is teach kids not to go to bed in a messy room, it can be dangerous and uncomfortable at night when stepping on toys and tripping over clothing and it makes it way easier in the morning for them to just make their beds and go on about their day.
Try these little tips, they helped me so much . Let's chat let me know how it works out or share what you do to keep your home looking clean and organized.
